What a terrific place!
At the ‘top’ of Whitewater Canyon sits the Whitewater Preserve, which includes this very awesome wading pond. I think they should have mentioned it on the signpost on the trail 🙂 It was so nice to get into it and wander around as you cool off. Dad and I got in and tried looking for the Californian Red-Legged Frog, which the preserve is trying to protect. We didn’t see any, but we weren’t disappointed. There was lots of shade, clean bathrooms, and water that you could actually get into – a real desert oasis for PCT hikers! Thanks, Emily Buchi and everyone else I met at the preserve! I had a great time there.
Aside from the wading pond, there was also a little fast flowing creek to go plonk in. The water was cool but not too cold like some mountain streams. I could have stayed there all day. Thanks for the detour, Dad!

We also managed to spot a road runner while we were there. He ran away from us, which is what road runners do I guess, but I also think they might be pretty shy creatures. We did manage to get a camera out though!
