Southwestern Arroyo Toad

Less than a quarter mile over the Southern Pacific rail line, we spotted this little guy, right on the trail.  I’m pretty sure he’s a Southwestern Arroyo Toad.  He had all the hallmarks.  He was out at night, he was light green in color, and covered in warts.  I knew these toads had been found along Deep Creek.  But we hadn’t seen any there.  It was pretty special then to see one where I didn’t know they would be.  Spotting an endangered species – what a great treat from night hiking!
