Well, how lucky am I to be having a birthday somewhere on the PCT?! But… leaving the PCT for fresh food and a birthday cake in town is even better! It’s more than 10 miles from the trail to Tehachapi, so we were really hoping to hitch a ride. The trail angels in Tehachapi are super organized and leave all kinds of information for hikers where the trail crosses the road into town. We didn’t have to call anyone though, because Legend showed up with his girlfriend! Ha ha! Girlfriend is the trail name of Legend’s truck.
The road into town gets pretty steep in places, and we all cheered Girlfriend on over the hills and into town. It was fun and a great way to get into town. Thanks, Legend and Girlfriend!
Other than getting clean (shower and swim), my day’s highlight reel included going to see a movie (Top Gun Maverick) and going to Kohnen’s German bakery. I also got a sweet message from my “tramily”: Flower Power, Quick Fix, Crocs, Coach, Emily, Deep V (Christian), Floppy D, and Double D. Thanks everyone!
I had Happy Birthday sung to me four times during the day, and had nice little things like Happy Birthday written on my soda cup. I had a really nice day. Thanks to everyone for making me feel so special!
