A Lucky Few - Magnus Hikes

Just before we got back to Harts Pass, our old friend Sassenach from Scotland caught up to us. It was great to see him! He had been just ahead of us at Rainy Pass, and lucky for him, he had made it to the border! Congratulations, Sass!

I’m so glad Sass got that win, especially since he had slowed down to help me. I would have felt pretty bad if he had just missed out. After tagging it, he had walked back south to Holman Lake and taken a swim. Rangers appeared and cleared him and other hikers out due to the encroaching fire. After camping several miles south of Holman Lake, at around midnight rangers again cleared him out for safety reasons. It brought it home to me and Dad how close we had been to getting through to the border… but also how dangerous the situation had been.
