My mum and little sister, Lachlan, had got a cabin and made plans to meet us in Idyllwild for a few days. It was so good to see them! They met us at the Humber Park trail head and drove us the mile or so into town. It had been a really hot and long day, and it was nice to not have to walk that little bit!

We had a home cooked meal with real vegetables, soaked in a shower, and watched TV. Mum had brought my regular clothes, and it felt good to put on something other than hiking gear for a couple of days. It was especially nice that we didn’t have to wear our wet weather gear while our hiking clothes were in the laundry. The weather was hot – in the 90s – and I reckon it would have felt pretty steamy waiting for the laundry in a plastic suit.
Lachlan and I also got to meet the mayor of Idyllwild, who just happens to be a dog! Mayor Max is a golden retriever and he seemed pretty happy to meet with his public from the back of his pick-up.

We ate lunch at the Idyllwild Brewpub and got hot chocolate and scones from Higher Ground coffee shop. I really liked Idyllwild, but probably the best thing was getting to hang out as a family again, eat my Mum’s famous fruit salad, and play kid games with Lachlan.
Thanks, Mum and Lachlan!
