After four months of wilderness and 30-mile-days with mostly only Dad, it was strange to get on a school bus and head off to school. It was like nothing had changed except for me. Other hikers had talked about “re-entry issues” and I wondered if this weird feeling was my version. At school I was congratulated and welcomed back. It was great to see friends again. I had tennis tryouts, band practice, and algebra to think about. Re-entry for me? Fast!
