TRAIL JOURNAL

Starting from just 4 miles in, we started seeing this plant everywhere. It’s shaped like an oak leaf, has an oily sheen, grows in the characteristic ‘group of three’ configuration, but is smaller than the poison oak I’ve seen in Washington state. This California version is growing in amongst the scrub on both sides of the trail for miles and miles. My Dad sat on a log to take a rest, and got back up like a shot when I showed him what he was sitting on!
