Push to Idyllwild

From the Paradise Valley Café we headed up the trail to Idyllwild.  We had a special reason to hustle: Mum and my little sister Lachlan were arriving in Idyllwild on the afternoon of the 13th.  The weather was starting to get really hot and we were going to have to do 28 miles in a day to get there the same afternoon as them.  It’s a bit difficult to coordinate meeting on the PCT because we don’t really know when we’re going to be somewhere.  But Mum and Lachlan have to get a flight, car, and place to stay in advance.  So, now we have to hustle!

We averaged 3.71mph where the trail was clear.

At times the trail was easy to see, sometimes it was not so easy to find, and in other places the view was kind of distracting.

Hard to walk fast when the view is great and the drop off is steep.

We planned to leave the trail at Saddle Junction, which connects to the Humber Park trail head and Idyllwild. We were so determined to get there on time that we didn’t stop and dry our feet out every few hours as we usually did. So, Dad got blisters. He kept pushing on, even though his feet must have been really hurting him.

We made it!

We made it to the turn-off at just before 5pm, just as it was starting to cool down, and just in time to meet Mum and Lachlan for a homecooked dinner! Thanks for toughing it out, Dad!
