Like thousands of PCT hikers before us, we spent the day before we started hiking at the San Diego home of Scout and Frodo, two PCT legends. My Dad read Scout’s book Journey’s North (twice), and found out that every year Scout and Frodo hosted PCT hikers on Day 0 of their SONO adventure. We were so lucky to be among the dozen or so hikers they hosted on our day in May, and then were even luckier to sleep in a real tree house in their backyard. The tree house has a sky window to look at the stars, and the last mattress we’d sleep on for many miles. This was way better than I had imagined!
I met lots of other hikers who had come from all over the world to have a go at the PCT, like me. I am the only kid, and I feel so lucky to be here with my Dad. All the hikers are friendly, and I think all of us feel pretty special to be at Scout & Frodo’s. THANKS for our awesome start, Scout and Frodo!
In the morning, we had a giant breakfast before John, another trail angel, drove us all to Campo where the PCT officially begins.
