Swimming at Silverwood

It was tough to leave the shade of Deep Creek behind.

After Deep Creek and the dam, there were quite a few miles of hiking along roads and through dry scrub with hot sun on our backs. Then the PCT gets to the northern shore of Silverwood Lake.  It’s so good to see! So much blue water!

First glimpse of Silverwood Lake from the PCT.

There is a swimming area on the western shore, about a 6-mile hike from where the trail first gets to the lake.  When it’s hot, it seems like a loooong 6 miles!

The swimming area was worth the wait. It had a sandy beach and a gentle slope out into the lake.  The water was so nice and even though it was sunny and warm, we had the run of the place.  We swam for an hour or so, rinsing out our hiking shirts at the same time.

In the swimming area at the western end of Silverwood Lake.

After a really nice long rest and something to eat, we started out again. The last part of Section C is a 12-mile walk around Cleghorn Mountain ending at I-15. Just as we were starting out we saw this strange little trail marker.

Does anyone know the story of this Wûnderlik?

It was good to see it, whatever it means! 🙂
