Trail Closure Angels

Firefighters closed the PCT temporarily due to a brush fire in Bouquet Canyon (milepost 465). Forty-eight acres burned in total. No hikers were permitted on the trail out of Agua Dulce, and we couldn’t leave as planned. We waited around for a day, but no-one knew when it would reopen.

Fortunately for us, there were trail angels willing to drive us around the burn! Meet Summer and Mackenzie! They kindly drove us from Agua Dulce to Green Valley.

Lovely trail angels got us around the trail closure and back on our way. Thank you!

As the trail goes, we skipped about 15 miles. But the roads took a circuitous route, and the drive was a lot longer. So, driving us was a bit of a big deal. I am really amazed at how people are so helpful and so generous. Thank you so much, Summer and Mackenzie!

Five hikers piled in and we were quickly underway. What an amazing pair of trail angels!
Getting back onto the trail at Green Valley.

Luckily this has been our only fire issue on the trail, and it wasn’t too large of a fire. The forests look dry to me, but I’m from Washington State and I don’t know what is normal for Southern California. I just hope that there aren’t serious fires this year!
